WHY DO YOU MAKE ART?
It makes me feel like a whole, well-adjusted person. Sometimes I do it to make money, but mostly I do it because I enjoy it so much. I don’t really have any other talents.
HOW ARE YOU INSPIRED BY DETROIT?
Detroit is so full of art and inspiration, it’s a great place. I love the architecture, the museum, the street art. Sometimes I find things to put in collages just by walking around!
WHAT ELSE INSPIRES YOU?
Cats, women’s issues, pop culture, mental illness….I make work involving all these things.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I am Mary Williams, an artist originally from the Toledo, Ohio area. I would like people to know that I am a passionate cat lady, feminist, and versatile artist.
WHAT IS YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS?
I have a constant stream of projects going in my head! Sometimes I start with a collage background, or I will start with a drawing of my main subject. I make drawings, cut them out, then collage them onto a chosen background. Then I will draw on top, and sometimes I add 3 dimensional objects.
